Mithra has launched a bid to produce the most collaborated book in the world. And its looking for writers to take part in making history.

The Big Book Project will also give new authors a chance to be published by asking them to write a chapter of a book rather than a whole novel.

The project, based along the same lines as the US movie, ‘How to Make an American Quilt’,  involves the creation of two storylines for two separate books.  The chapters are then thrown open for writers to read and add to.

Each contribution is read and vetted by the publishing company and, if approved, will be added to the book.   The company said that by the end of each tale,  they will have a book written by more authors than any one book ever. It will be a Guinness World Record.

A Mithra spokesman said: “Not many people have the time to write a whole book.  But a lot of us have the time to write a chapter.  We’re building on that idea and, at the same time,  offering writers the chance to see their work published. It is a unique take on author collaboration.”

Anyone who contributes will be credited as a co-author at the front of the book and at the bottom of their chapter. The story will be published as an ebook and made available through Amazon and iBooks.
